Charlie E. York, a native of Mobile, Alabama, is the son of (the late) Deacon Ernest and (the late) Mother Emma York.
Pastor York accepted Jesus Christ as his true and living Savior at the age of seven. He rededicated his life to serving Christ at the age of twenty-five. Ordained a Deacon in April 1977, he served God and His people for fifteen years before answering God's call to a “greater” work. He began his Gospel ministry in September 1992 and preached his first sermons at Greater St. Paul Baptist Church in Cocoa, Florida under the leadership of Dr. W. O. Wells. He was ordained a Minister on November 6, 1994 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where he served in many areas including Associate
Minister. He served as Pastor of Prosperity Baptist Church in Auburntown, TN for twelve (12) years. Pastor York accepted the call to become Senior Pastor of Highpoint Baptist Church on December 17, 2006. Blessed with great preaching,
teaching and leadership abilities, Pastor York is now bearing “much” fruit at Highpoint Baptist Church, his community of Eight Mile, and the surrounding Mobile communities.
Pastor York is very active in the community and the Mobile Baptist Association of the Southern Baptist Convention. His vision is that “God is building a strong new Testament Church where members are regularly engaged in Prayer, Worship, Evangelisn, Bible Study, Discipleship, Fellowship and Service”. His Motto is “Christ Jesus Is The Answer” (St. John
14:6); for Jesus said that “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Pastor York is an honors graduate of Trinity Gardens High School (’69) in Mobile (AL), and the University of Texas at Austin – BSEE (’83). He also earned degrees from The University of Tennessee – Masters (’88) and the Community College of The Air Force - Associates, (’80). He completed courses with Liberty University’s School of Divinity. He completed Master’s (’12) and Doctorate of Ministry (D. Min) in Pastoral Studies with honors at Covington Theological Seminary (July 2013).
After serving his country for over twenty-two years, Pastor York retired as an Air Force officer. Highly decorated, he earned many awards including three Meritorious Service Medals in the United States and the Air Medal for service in Vietnam (’72). Prior to relocating to Mobile, he was an Electrical Engineer Manager with Aerospace Testing Alliance (ATA) at Arnold Engineering Development Center, Tullahoma, TN. Presently, he is the very proud Senior Pastor of Highpoint Baptist Church in Eight Mile, AL.
Pastor York is married to the lovely Vera M. Adams, and they have one son – Lorne Eugene (Tammy). They also have four grandchildren – Ashley Cochelle, Tylon Juwan, Abbey Verchelle, and McCord Eugene. Endowed with great faith in God, Pastor York's ministry is blessed with fervent Gospel preaching, Christian education and training, and servant
